TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA — Dr. Valerie Shute, associate professor of Educational Psychology and Learning Systems at Florida State University, is a leader in the area of assessment, and among the first to develop assessments using digital media tools such as games and social networks. She will use this grant to work with two commercial game companies to develop assessments for creativity, collaboration, conceptual physics, and persistence that could be integrated into existing interactive video games, and to pilot test the games in two schools. These games and assessments could then be used in schools and afterschool programs, including the Foundation-funded Quest schools.

The MacArthur Foundation awarded Florida State University Research Foundation $400,000 between 2010 and 2013.
