Executive Service Corps of Chicago

Chicago, Illinois

Grants

2015 (1 year)
$50,000

The Executive Service Corps of Chicago recruits, trains, and supervises volunteer teams of experienced professionals on consulting projects for nonprofits. The Foundation’s partnership with the organization began in 2009 when the Foundation made its initial investment of $1 million in the Arts & Culture Loan Fund. The Loan Fund offers loans, underwritten and monitored by financial institutions, to small and mid-sized MacArthur arts grantees to strengthen financial stability. Executive Service Corps manages certain aspects of the Loan Fund by screening organizations, assisting in preparing loan documents, and providing technical assistance  on topics such as board governance, strategic planning, and finance. An external consulting group recently conducted an evaluation of the Loan Fund program for the Foundation; it was found to be valuable to grantees but needing refinement. Executive Service Corps will continues its activities on an interim basis as the program is redesigned.

2013 (2 years)
$110,000

This grant renews support to Executive Service Corps to provide technical assistance to arts organizations eligible to apply for loans through the MacArthur Foundation’s Arts & Culture Loan Fund. Specifically, this grant will cover the costs related to program management of the loan fund process itself, including screening interested organizations and loan documentation preparation; technical assistance for eligible organizations on topics such as board governance, strategic planning, and finance; and the documentation of case studies that will provide insight into the Loan Fund’s process and impact.
