Grants

2011 (1 year)
$200,000

The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh serves 250,000 visitors a year in an 80,000 square-foot museum that recently earned the National Medal for Museum and Library Services for innovative approaches to public service and exceptional community outreach. Working with Carnegie Mellon’s Entertainment Technology Center and the University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Learning in Out of School Environments, the Museum will use this grant to create MakeShop, a YOUMedia-like space that will engage middle-school students who are developing literacy skills with emerging technologies, and provide a model for use by similar institutions interested in serving older youth.
