$100,000

Established in 2012 by Bishop of Sokoto Hassan Matthew Kukah, the Kukah Centre for Faith and Leadership Research (TKC) is a Nigerian nonprofit that promotes active citizen participation in governance, interfaith cooperation, and national development. Under this discretionary award, TKC supports post-electoral healing, especially among young people and in communities. It organizes a series of meetings and conversations for young people from different socio-cultural backgrounds and interfaith groups. TKC also hosts an inter-generational conversation to redirect the energy of young people to productive activities and civic engagement. The second major component of the work is a restorative justice process for communities harmed by conflict. TKC coordinates its activities with LEAP Africa and the Nigeria Women’s Trust Fund, grantees of the Foundation focusing on youth. The award is expected to strengthen social cohesion and reduce polarization, a necessary precondition for transparency, accountability, and reduced corruption in Nigeria.
