Democracy 21 Education Fund (Democracy 21) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that works to combat the influence of money in politics. Democracy 21 defends the constitutionality of constructive campaign finance laws in court, monitors regulatory agencies charged with enforcing these laws, and helps the public understand the rapidly changing landscape of money in politics through communications. Democracy 21 also explores new ways to use the Internet and social media to increase the role of citizens in financing U.S. elections through small contributions matched by public funds. It is working towards building the public case law for a future judicial reversal of the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision. A MacArthur grant will support general operations.
